With time to kill and all this great info up, I decided to play around with XIVDB's wardrobe function and try to build the best endgame setup I could.

I noticed right away, that Allagan and AF +1 are pretty much on par with each other. The same goes for the Relic +1 weapons and the Allagan Weapons. It might be safe to say that the AF+1 probably comes from something that has to either do with Bahamut's Labyrinth or a different part of end game that is an alternative to this.

Anyhow, here are the sets.

SMN AF/Relic +1

and

Full Allagan SMN

Stat comparisons:

So apparently Bahamut's Gear has more crit, Determination, and slightly more Auto-Attack
AF/Relic +1 has more Accuracy, Spell Speed, And oddly enough more DPS and less Delay

So what I'm seeing here is a lack of "OMG this one is Def. Better" and more of a Either one is great and pulls ahead just a bit in small areas.

Thoughts?

First link seems to be broken, but your table is clear enough.

I've noticed that with quite a lot of the Lv 50 gear. A lot of them don't seem to be any better than the others, just "alternatives." Of course, that's not true for all of them.

As for which is better, I'm gonna go with the Allagan gear.

Auto-attack and Delay are moot, so let's knock those off right away.

Accuracy, as far as I know, has no bearing on magic. Magic does not seem to miss, nor do enfeebling spells need to proc.

Now, this is still subject to change, but going from Phase 3, the difference in spell speed is too minor to make any noticeable difference. They should be roughly the same in terms of GCD. This applies to DPS too. Too small of a difference.

That leaves Critical Rate and Determination, both I believe to be very important stats when it comes to DPS.

Fixed the link, thanks.

As for the stats someone else brought up a good point: Do these stats effect your pets? If so, the accuracy might be very important.

The other thing to look at is the spell speed too. Will this also effect your pet or not? Until we see ACN in action and can test it a bit I'm going to go with yes. As I See a complete lack of pet gear similar to FFXI.

But ultimately it all looks like: You can have one or the other.

Personally, I would say no and that the pets don't stem off your stats, but just scale on to your level. The exact same way a Chocobo companion does.

But you're right, no real way of knowing til we test.

Slightly offtopic (sorry Tann!) but do we think with that kind of styling they'll be looking at more of a horizontal gear progression like XI had for years until level cap breaks?

More on topic: would skill/spell speed over some other raw stat be more detrimental? Still learning so not familiar with how stats play out here, but from the testing I've seen so far from phase 3 it looks like players found that the skill/spell speed has little bearing on actual dps over raw stats. (I think DoctorMog and some folks from BG had been testing it) That being the case that would make the +1 artifact body eak out ahead of the Allegan Tunic? More of a mix'n'match of the two instead of full one or the other?

It's as you said Kura, in Phase 3 Skill/Spell speed did very little. If that is still the case at launch, then it would be in your best interest to go for other stats.

Having not played end game XI, I can't speak about it's gear progression, but it's surely looking horizontal thus far.

I think the jury is still out on skill/spell speed gear. As there was very little of this in the beta phases. I know I saw a couple of pieces of speed gear on it but didn't really get enough of it to really see a difference in GCD.

I know for someone did a gear test with there level 50 paladin to see which would be better str for damage or dex (?) for blocking. But they Also did a test on determination. I would have to find the test again. But from the results determination didn't show a marked difference to either damage or block rate.

Now this could be because the battle formulas weren't finalized in the last beta phase and we won't see the final formulas till phase 4 or we haven't seen enough gear with either speed Or dermenation on it to show us what amount is need to show a difference.
