I saw this post in ZAM and thought it would be a nice resource for current and future BLMs.

It not only gives suggestions as to what macros to use, but it also tells you why it should be used. I'm surprised that you don't have to use the /wait command. I have not tried these out myself, so I don't know how accurate it is, but the comments below the guide appear to be generally positive.

The /wait times are prolly dependant on your spellspeed. He prolly did not include them because of that, but I figured he would have added them in between skills. Also, Macros are nice to a degree, I personally don't like them because I feel like I commit to w/e skills are in the macro, and situations can change quickly, so I throw that out to anybody whos considering them.

On a side note, I'm not a blm master or a pro by any means (my blm is 30), but this one macro..

The Main Fire Spam Macro:

/macroicon "Fire"
/ac "Raging Strikes" <t>
/ac "Fire" <t>
/ac "Virus" <t>
/ac "Blizzard III" <t>

I'm not entirely sure why Blizzard 3 is in there. Its breaking Astral Fire3, (which I hope would be up), and wasting Raging strikes. But maybe theres something I don't know about blm, but I figure I'd throw that out there as well. The rest looks okay to me.

From what I read, the way to use the Fire Spam macro is to literally keep spamming it. If you keep clicking onto the macro and don't give it an opportunity to finish, you should keep casting Fire. Once your MP run too low to cast Fire, then you will go to Blizzard III to start the MP refresh phase. The Virus spell is to act as a buffer just in case you miss the macro and would otherwise go to Blizzard to quickly.

In this case, I think I will keep to my current pattern of starting with Fire, then start spamming Fire III, then when my MP runs low, to use Transpose to switch immediately to Astral Ice for MP recovery. After a quick Scathe and a couple of Blizzards, I will switch back to Astral Fire with another Transpose (thank you short timer), as long as my MP have recovered. In a way, it feels like I almost have infinite MP doing this. In this particular macro's case, I think the only benefit it would have for me is a reminder to use Raging Strikes. I will sometimes go into a boss fight with the intention of using it, but I may forget about it from time to time just due to lack of experience.

The two I like the most are the Defense/Heal Self, and the Insta Sleep macros.

The Defense / Heal self Macro:

/macroicon "Manawall"
/ac "Manawall" <me>
/ac "Manaward" <me>
/ac "Physick" <me>

InstaSleep Macro:

/macroicon "Sleep"
/ac "Swiftcast" <me>
/ac "Sleep" <t>

The Defense/Heal one allows you to raise your defenses quickly if you are taking some nasty damage and you need to give your healer some time to heal you. And although I haven't had the need to use an Instant Sleep spell, I would imagine a quick sleep spell may be needed for higher level dungeons and fights. Again, since both are situational, I think the biggest trick is to remember that you even have them during the heat of battle, at least for me at least.

As far as pure DPS goes, spamming Fire I is much much better than spamming Fire III. Not only do you get more "bang for your buck" as far as MP goes, but once you get the Firestarter trait, you have the potential of casting more free Fire III than you ever would manually casting it. On top of that, Fire I has a much shorter cast time than Fire III.

Since Astral Fire stacks decrease the cast time of Ice spells, you no longer really need Transpose except in emergency MP situations, as Blizzard III takes over it's spot. You'd also get MP back faster as Blizzard III would put you directly into Umbral Ice III, whereas Transpose would put you into Umbral Ice I.

The same applies for using Fire III while in Umbral Ice III to go directly into Astral Fire III.

Thank you for the advice, Maxi. I'll give it a try the next time I'm on BLM.
